Farm Worker Time Card Calculator — Timesheet for six 10-hour days in the field

A weekly time card pre-set the way farm workers actually work: six 10-hour days in the field. Adjust the shifts to your own week — overtime split and gross pay follow instantly.

In short: This card starts from a typical farm worker week — Monday to Saturday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a 30-minute unpaid break (10 paid hours) — at $17/hour. That week totals 60:00 hours and $1,190.00 gross under the federal weekly rule. Change any shift, break or the rate and the whole week recalculates.

How It Works — Overtime for Farm Workers

The card turns each shift into paid minutes (clock-out minus clock-in, minus unpaid breaks; overnight shifts roll into the next day), then splits the week: the first 40 paid hours are regular, the rest are overtime at 1.5×. Rules summarized from the US Department of Labor (FLSA). Last verified: November 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are farm workers entitled to overtime?

Under federal law, generally no: the FLSA exempts agricultural employees from overtime. But a growing list of states — including California, Washington, New York, Minnesota and Hawaii — grant farm workers overtime under their own phase-in schedules, and any worker doing non-agricultural work (packing for others, construction) can be covered for those weeks. Check your state’s rule before assuming either way.

I am paid by the piece. What must my pay average?

At least the applicable minimum wage for every hour worked, averaged over the week. If a slow field or bad weather drops your piece earnings below that line, the employer must top it up. H-2A workers have additional rate protections set by their job order.

Does riding the crew bus to the field count?

Travel from a central meeting point to the field is generally hours worked when the employer provides and requires the transport as part of the job; the ordinary trip from home to the meeting point is usually not. Rules are fact-specific — keep your own times.

How can I use this card if I am federally exempt?

Use it to price your week under the standard rule: it shows what the same hours would pay with overtime — the right benchmark for states with agricultural overtime laws, and for comparing job offers or negotiating piece rates.

Does this card save my week?

Yes — automatically, in your browser’s local storage on this device only. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. Archive a finished week and it stays viewable on the same device (up to 12 archived weeks).

How it works — the formula

The formula: Gross = (regular hours × rate) + (overtime hours × rate × 1.5), where overtime hours are the paid hours beyond 40 in the workweek.

Worked example

The pre-loaded week — Monday to Saturday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a 30-minute unpaid break (10 paid hours) — is Monday 10 h, Tuesday 10 h, Wednesday 10 h, Thursday 10 h, Friday 10 h, Saturday 10 h: 60:00 paid hours. At the pre-set rate that is 40:00 regular ($680.00) + 20:00 overtime ($510.00) = $1,190.00 gross before taxes.

Disclaimer: Estimates only — not payroll or legal advice. Your employer's payroll rules and state law control your actual pay. Figures are rounded for display; your pay stub and payroll department are the official record.
