Janitor Time Card Calculator — Timesheet for five overnight shifts, Monday to Friday

A weekly time card pre-set the way janitors actually work: five overnight shifts, Monday to Friday. Adjust the shifts to your own week — overtime split and gross pay follow instantly.

In short: This card starts from a typical janitor week — Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM with a 30-minute unpaid break (8 paid hours) — at $16/hour. That week totals 40:00 hours and $640.00 gross under the federal weekly rule. Change any shift, break or the rate and the whole week recalculates.

How It Works — Overtime for Janitors

The card turns each shift into paid minutes (clock-out minus clock-in, minus unpaid breaks; overnight shifts roll into the next day), then splits the week: the first 40 paid hours are regular, the rest are overtime at 1.5×. Rules summarized from the US Department of Labor (FLSA). Last verified: November 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

My shift crosses midnight. Which day do the hours belong to?

Employers define the workweek (a fixed 168-hour period) and apply it consistently; the common convention counts a shift on the day it starts. What matters for overtime is the total inside that fixed workweek, not the calendar day.

How does a night differential change overtime?

The differential is added to your hourly pay before the overtime calculation: a $16 base with a $1 differential has a $17 regular rate, so overtime pays $25.50, not $24.00. Enter the combined rate here to model it.

Is on-call time for building emergencies paid?

Only when the restrictions keep you from using the time for yourself. Having to stay on the premises counts; simply being reachable by phone usually does not — but every hour you actually come in and work is paid.

How do I check a paycheck?

Keep your own in/out times per building for a week, rebuild the week here at your full rate including any differential, and compare hours and gross with the stub.

Does this card save my week?

Yes — automatically, in your browser’s local storage on this device only. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. Archive a finished week and it stays viewable on the same device (up to 12 archived weeks).

How it works — the formula

The formula: Gross = (regular hours × rate) + (overtime hours × rate × 1.5), where overtime hours are the paid hours beyond 40 in the workweek.

Worked example

The pre-loaded week — Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM with a 30-minute unpaid break (8 paid hours) — is Monday 8 h, Tuesday 8 h, Wednesday 8 h, Thursday 8 h, Friday 8 h: 40:00 paid hours. At the pre-set rate that is 40:00 regular ($640.00) with no overtime = $640.00 gross before taxes.

Disclaimer: Estimates only — not payroll or legal advice. Your employer's payroll rules and state law control your actual pay. Figures are rounded for display; your pay stub and payroll department are the official record.
