Screen Recorder - Record Your Screen Online Free
Explaining a bug, teaching a lesson, or showing someone how a website works is far easier with a quick video than with ten screenshots. Press Start, choose what to share, do your thing, and download the recording. Your microphone can be mixed in when you want to narrate.
How to record your screen
- Tick "Microphone audio" if you want to narrate, and "System / tab audio" if the sound of a tab should be recorded (Chrome or Edge on desktop).
- Click "Start Recording" and pick what to share in the browser's picker: a browser tab, a window, or your entire screen.
- Do what you want to show - the timer at the top shows how long you have been recording. This tab stays in the background of the capture, not inside it, unless you share the whole screen.
- Click "Stop Recording" (or the browser's own "Stop sharing" bar). Watch the preview, then click "Download Recording" to save the WebM file.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Screen Recorder free?
Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up, no watermark and no recording limit imposed by us.
Is my screen recording uploaded to a server?
No. The recording is captured and stored entirely inside your browser while you record, and the finished file is created on your device when you download it. Nothing is uploaded, ever.
What format does the recording download as?
WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox (MP4 in newer Safari versions). WebM plays in all modern browsers and uploads directly to YouTube and most other platforms.
Can I record sound from my computer as well as my voice?
Your voice: yes - tick "Microphone audio" and allow microphone access. Sound coming from the computer itself (system/tab audio) only works in Chrome and Edge on desktop, and only when you share a browser tab and tick the share-audio option in the picker. Other browsers cannot capture system audio - that is a browser limit, not something any website can change.
Which browsers support screen recording?
Chrome, Edge and Firefox on desktop support it fully. Safari supports it from version 14.1 on macOS. On phones, most mobile browsers do not allow websites to record the screen - use a desktop browser for this tool.
How it works
When you press Start, your browser's built-in screen-capture feature (getDisplayMedia) shows its own picker and hands this page a live video stream of exactly what you chose - nothing more. The page records that stream on the spot with the browser's MediaRecorder. The finished video is assembled in your browser's memory and offered as a download; no server ever sees a single frame.
Worked example
You want to show a student how to submit a form on a school portal. You tick "Microphone audio", click Start, choose the browser tab with the portal, fill the form in slowly while explaining each step out loud, then stop the recording after 1 minute 40 seconds. You preview the video, download the WebM file, and send it - total cost zero, and the student's data never touched any server.
Because the browser itself controls the picker and the "Stop sharing" bar, you are always in charge: the recording can only ever contain what you picked, and it ends the moment you say so.
More questions
Why did the picker not offer any audio?
System audio is only offered in Chrome and Edge on desktop, and only for browser tabs - windows and full screens are always silent in those browsers. Your microphone works in every supported browser via the "Microphone audio" tick-box instead.
My recording has no sound - what went wrong?
Check three things: the "Microphone audio" box was ticked and permission allowed; for tab sound, the "Share tab audio" switch in the picker was on; and the tab was actually playing sound while recording. Silent sources record as silence.
How long can I record?
There is no limit from us, but the recording is held in your browser's memory until you download it. Very long recordings (hours) can run out of memory on smaller devices - for long sessions, record in parts.
What if I press the browser's "Stop sharing" instead of the Stop button?
That works too. The recording finishes and your preview and download appear, exactly as if you had used the Stop button on this page.
