Favicon Generator — Make favicon.ico & PNG Icon Sets Free
Every website needs a favicon, and making one usually means fighting an image editor at 16 pixels. Choose your mark, download the pack, paste one snippet — done in two minutes.
How to use the Favicon Generator
- Choose your starting point: type a letter, initials or an emoji — or upload your logo/photo and it is centre-cropped into the icon shape.
- Pick a shape (rounded square, square, circle) and, for letter mode, the background and letter colours. The preview updates live at 256 pixels.
- Download the FULL PACK (.zip): favicon.ico, six PNG sizes, site.webmanifest and head-snippet.html.
- Unzip into your site root and paste the snippet into your page’s . Browsers find favicon.ico automatically.
How it works
The .ICO file is built byte by byte in your browser: an ICONDIR header followed by one entry per size, each holding a PNG — the modern PNG-compressed ICO format every current browser accepts. Each PNG is drawn fresh at its exact pixel size, and the ZIP is assembled locally by Loona’s own ZIP writer with correct checksums. Upload mode cover-crops your image into the icon shape at every size.
Worked example
A student launching her first portfolio site keeps her eagle logo, uploads it here, downloads the pack, pastes the snippet — and her browser tab finally carries her own mark instead of the default globe.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a favicon?
The small icon on a browser tab, in bookmarks and on home screens. Sites use a favicon.ico in the root plus PNG sizes for phones and manifests — the pack contains all of them.
How do I install the pack?
Unzip it into your website’s root folder and paste the contents of head-snippet.html into your page head. That is the whole job.
Can I use my own logo image?
Yes — choose "Uploaded image / logo". It is centre-cropped to a square at every size, so a square-ish logo works best.
Is the .ICO a real ICO or a renamed PNG?
A real ICO: proper ICONDIR structure containing three PNG-encoded sizes (16, 32 and 48) — the format browsers expect, verified by our automated tests.
Is my image uploaded?
Never — the whole pack is generated on your device.
