Word Cloud Generator — Free Word Clouds from Your Text
Speeches, essays, reviews, a whole chapter: a word cloud shows the vocabulary of a text at a glance, and makes a striking poster for classrooms and presentations.
How to use the Word Cloud Generator
- Paste your text into the box — the cloud builds as you type.
- Common small words (the, and, of…) are removed by default so real content words dominate; tick the box to keep them.
- Choose how many words to include and a background colour.
- Download the PNG for your slide, poster or classroom wall.
How it works
Frequencies are counted exactly (case-insensitive, punctuation stripped). Font size grows with the square root of frequency — the standard weighting that keeps one huge word from crushing the rest. Words are placed from the centre outward on an expanding spiral, each checked against every placed word, so nothing overlaps; words that cannot fit the canvas are honestly skipped and the count is reported under the canvas.
Worked example
A teacher pastes the chapter she is about to teach. The cloud shows "river" towering over everything — the lesson’s introduction writes itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
How are word sizes decided?
By frequency, scaled by square root: a word used 4× as often appears 2× as tall — readable without letting the top word dominate everything.
What are stop words?
Tiny grammar words (the, and, is…) that appear in every text. Removing them (the default) lets the meaningful words show.
Why is a word missing?
Words that cannot fit without overlapping are skipped — raise the word limit less, or shorten the text. The status line always reports how many were placed.
Is my text uploaded?
Never — counting and drawing happen in your browser.
