Word Frequency Counter - Your Most-Used Words, Ranked
Writers repeat themselves without noticing; teachers spot it in essays instantly. Paste any text and see which words you lean on too hard, which names dominate a document, and how varied your vocabulary really is.
How to use the Word Frequency
- Paste your text into the box.
- Choose whether to hide common joining words and set a minimum word length.
- Click Count and read the ranked table - most-used words first, with counts and percentages.
How it works
The counter tokenises your text into words - sequences of letters, numbers and apostrophes - and lowercases them so 'The' and 'the' count together. It then tallies every word, sorts by count (alphabetically for ties) and computes each word's share of the whole text. The common-words filter hides a standard list of English joining words (the, and, of, to...) so the meaningful words stand out. The same counting works for Urdu and other scripts, since words are recognised by their letters, not by an English dictionary.
Worked example
In a 900-word school essay, the table shows 'students' 23 times (2.6%), 'school' 17 times and 'very' 14 times - a clear hint to the writer to vary 'very' and check whether 'students' can sometimes be 'they' or 'children'.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the word frequency counter free?
Yes - free, no sign-up, and it handles whole essays and chapters.
Does case matter?
No - words are counted case-insensitively, so 'School', 'SCHOOL' and 'school' are one word.
Can I export the results?
Yes - Download CSV gives you a spreadsheet-ready file of every word, its count and its percentage.
Does it work for Urdu text?
Yes. Words in any script are counted; spaces separate words just as in English.
Is my text uploaded?
No - counting happens entirely in your browser.
