Remove Line Breaks - Join Lines into Clean Paragraphs
Copy text from a PDF and every line ends mid-sentence, because the page width forced a break. Paste that broken text here and get clean paragraphs back - with an option that even repairs words split by a hyphen at the line end.
How to use the Remove Line Breaks
- Paste the broken, line-chopped text into the box.
- Keep both options on for PDF text - they preserve paragraphs and repair split words.
- Click Remove Line Breaks and copy your flowing paragraphs.
How it works
The tool first splits your text into paragraphs wherever a truly blank line appears. Inside each paragraph, every single line break becomes a space, joining the lines the way the author wrote them. When a line ends with a hyphen, that hyphen was usually the page breaking a long word in two, so the join removes the hyphen and the space ('informa-' + 'tion' becomes 'information'); a real hyphenated compound ending a line mid-paragraph is rare enough that this trade-off wins almost every time. Extra spaces created by the joins are squeezed automatically.
Worked example
PDF text arrives as: 'The quick brown fox jumps over the\nlazy dog. It was a sunny day in the informa-\ntion age.' After joining: 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. It was a sunny day in the information age.' - one clean paragraph.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tool free?
Yes - free, no sign-up, any text length.
Will it merge my paragraphs into one block?
Only if you untick 'Keep paragraph breaks'. With it on, blank lines in the original become proper paragraph breaks in the result.
What does the hyphen repair do?
When a line ends in '-', the two halves are joined without a space or hyphen - fixing words that a PDF split across lines.
Is this different from Remove Extra Spaces?
Yes - that tool tidies spaces within lines; this one removes the line breaks themselves and rebuilds paragraphs.
Is my text uploaded?
No - it all happens in your browser.
