Speech to Text - Type by Speaking

In short: the Speech to Text typist listens through your microphone and writes down what you say - in English, Urdu and many other languages.

Talking is faster than typing - especially for long letters, lesson notes and messages in Urdu. Press Start, allow the microphone, and speak naturally: your words appear as text you can copy, download or clean up with our other text tools.

Private by design: everything in this tool happens 100% in your browser with JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded to a server, never stored and never seen by us - close the tab and everything is gone.

How to use the Speech to Text

  1. Choose the language you will speak - for Urdu dictation pick 'Urdu (Pakistan)'.
  2. Click Start Dictation and allow microphone access when the browser asks.
  3. Speak in a normal voice, pausing between sentences. Click the button again (now 'Stop') when you finish.

How it works

Dictation uses your browser's built-in speech recognition (the Web Speech API), available in Chrome and Edge. Your voice is processed by the browser's speech service - this page itself stores nothing, and the transcript only exists in the box above until you copy or download it. Recognition is best in a quiet room with the phone or microphone 20-30 cm from your mouth, speaking at reading pace rather than shouting. Interim results are added only when the engine is confident, so the text settles as you speak.

Worked example

A shopkeeper who finds Urdu typing slow dictates a full WhatsApp message in Urdu - 'Assalam-o-Alaikum, aap ka order kal dispatch ho jayega' - in one breath. It appears correctly in Urdu script, ready to copy into WhatsApp in under ten seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is speech to text free?

Yes - free with no sign-up and no minutes limit imposed by us.

Why does it not work in my browser?

Speech recognition is built into Chrome and Edge. Firefox and Safari do not provide it to web pages, so please open this page in Chrome or Edge.

Does it really support Urdu?

Yes - choose 'Urdu (Pakistan)' and speak Urdu; the transcript appears in Urdu script, provided your browser has the Urdu recognition pack (Chrome includes it).

Is my voice recorded or stored?

This page never records or stores audio. Recognition is performed by your browser; the text appears only in your box.

Why did it stop listening?

Browsers stop after a pause in some modes. Keep 'continuous mode' ticked, or simply press Start again - your existing text is never erased.
