Slug Generator - Titles into Clean URLs

In short: the Slug Generator turns a page or post title into the tidy, lowercase, hyphen-joined text that belongs in a web address - and shows the full URL live.

Web addresses should be short, readable and free of spaces and symbols: 'how-to-make-chai' beats 'How%20to%20Make%20Chai!!'. Type a title and watch a proper slug form instantly, with a length limit and separator you control.

Private by design: everything in this tool happens 100% in your browser with JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded to a server, never stored and never seen by us - close the tab and everything is gone.

How to use the Slug Generator

  1. Type or paste your page title - the slug updates as you type.
  2. Choose a separator and length limit; hyphens are what Google recommends.
  3. Copy the slug into your website, blog or shop address setting.

How it works

The generator lowercases the title, converts accented letters to their plain forms (รฉ becomes e), removes apostrophes, replaces every run of spaces and punctuation with your separator, and trims separators from the ends. If the result exceeds your length limit, it cuts at the last whole word that fits rather than chopping a word in half. Optionally it can drop small joining words entirely for very short addresses. The preview shows the full address with a sample domain so you see exactly what visitors will see.

Worked example

Title: '10 Best Tips for Your Child's First Day at School!'. Slug: '10-best-tips-for-your-childs-first-day-at-school'. With small words removed: '10-best-tips-childs-first-day-school' - shorter, and still perfectly clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the slug generator free?

Yes - free with no sign-up.

Hyphens or underscores?

Hyphens. Google's own guidance treats hyphens as word separators; underscores join words into one long word in its reading.

Why remove capital letters and symbols?

URLs are case-sensitive on many servers and symbols like &, ? and % have special meanings in addresses. Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens are safe everywhere.

What is a good slug length?

Short enough to read at a glance - usually 3 to 6 words. The default 60-character limit keeps the full address tidy in search results.

Does it handle Urdu titles?

It keeps Urdu letters in the slug (browsers encode them), but for widest compatibility most sites use English titles for URLs.
