Flowchart Maker — Free Flowcharts with Smart Connectors

In short: the Flowchart Maker builds clean flowcharts from five standard shapes — Start/End, Process, Decision, Input/Output and Document — joined by automatic elbow connectors with optional labels like Yes and No, and exports the finished chart as a PNG.

Processes, algorithms, admission steps, troubleshooting guides — a flowchart makes the order of steps impossible to misunderstand. Add shapes, drag them into place, connect them, and the connectors route themselves neatly between the nearest sides.

Private by design: everything in this tool happens 100% in your browser with JavaScript. Your data, photos and designs are never uploaded to a server, never stored and never seen by us - close the tab and everything is gone.

How to use the Flowchart Maker

  1. Add shapes with the buttons at the top — Start/End, Process, Decision, Input/Output or Document.
  2. Drag each shape into position and click it to edit its text and exact size in the editor below.
  3. To join two shapes: select the first, press "Connect selected", then click the target shape. The connector picks the nearest sides and routes itself with a clean elbow.
  4. Select a connector (it is created already selected) and type a label such as Yes or No. Download the PNG when the chart reads clearly.

How it works

Connectors are computed geometrically: for any two shapes the maker compares all sixteen pairs of side anchors (top, bottom, left, right on each), picks the closest pair, and routes an orthogonal elbow through the midpoint — so arrows stay tidy wherever you drag the shapes. Arrowheads are drawn from the final segment angle. Everything is vector-drawn on canvas in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Worked example

A school clerk maps admissions: Start → Fill the form (Document) → Documents complete? (Decision) — Yes leads to Pay the fee, No loops the family back to a "Bring missing papers" process box. The PNG is printed for the office notice board.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference from the Mind Map Maker?

A mind map branches ideas from one centre. A flowchart shows ordered steps and decisions with directed arrows — use it for processes, algorithms and procedures.

How do connectors choose their route?

Automatically — the maker measures the distance between every pair of sides on the two shapes and routes an elbow connector between the closest pair, updating as you drag.

Can I label decision branches?

Yes — after connecting, the new connector is selected; type Yes, No or any label in the Connector label box.

Can I save my flowchart?

Download the PNG for the finished chart. The diagram stays editable while the tab is open.

Is the flowchart maker free?

Yes — free, no sign-up, no watermark, and your diagram never leaves your device.
