PDF to PNG Online - Free

In short: the PDF to PNG tool renders every PDF page into a high-quality PNG image. Unlike JPG, areas of the page with no content stay transparent.

Designers, teachers and developers often need PDF artwork as PNG - for slides, overlays or documentation. Convert each page here at up to print resolution, with transparency preserved and every page offered as its own download.

Frequently Asked Questions

PNG or JPG - which should I choose?

Choose PNG for crisp text, line art and transparent backgrounds. Choose JPG for photos and smaller file sizes.

Is transparency really preserved?

Yes. The page is rendered without a background fill, so empty areas remain transparent in the PNG.

Why are PNG files bigger than JPGs?

PNG is lossless, so it keeps every pixel exactly - that precision costs file size.

Are my files uploaded?

No. All rendering is local, inside your browser.

How it works

Like its JPG sibling, this tool loads your PDF locally with PDF.js and draws each page onto a canvas at 1.5, 2 or 3 times the page's natural size. The difference is what happens next: the canvas is left transparent - no background is painted in - and it is exported as a PNG, a lossless format that keeps every pixel exactly as rendered. Each finished page is offered as its own download link, named after your file, for example diagram-page1.png. Everything runs in your browser; the file never leaves your device.

Worked example

A shop owner has a 2-page PDF of her logo and price badge with empty space around the artwork. She converts it at High (2x) and downloads both PNGs. Because the empty areas stayed transparent, she can drop the badge straight onto photos and posters in her editing app - no white box around it - and the edges are perfectly sharp because PNG loses nothing.

Frequently asked questions

What resolution do the PNGs come out at?

The scale you pick multiplies the page's natural size. An A4 page at High (2x) becomes about 1190 x 1684 pixels, and at Print (3x) about 1785 x 2526 pixels - enough for slides, print and detailed diagrams.

Are the images the original pictures embedded in the PDF?

No. The tool renders each complete page as one image - text, photos and drawings together, exactly as the page looks. It does not pull out the separate image files stored inside the PDF.

Can I download all pages together in a ZIP?

No, there is no ZIP option. Every page gets its own download link, so you can save just the pages you need and ignore the rest.

Will the colours and fine lines stay accurate?

Yes. PNG is lossless, so the exported pixels match the rendered page exactly - no compression artefacts around text or thin lines. The trade-off is larger files than JPG.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

No. Protected files cannot be opened for rendering. Unlock the PDF in your usual reader first, then convert the unlocked copy.

Is the text in a PNG searchable?

No. A PNG is a picture of the page, so the words cannot be selected or searched. Use our PDF to Text tool when you need the actual text.
