Sign PDF Online - Free

In short: the Sign PDF tool places your signature onto any page of a PDF: draw it with mouse or finger, or upload a signature image, position it with the live preview, and download the signed file.

Forms, agreements and permission slips constantly ask for a signature. Instead of printing, signing and scanning, do it right here: draw your signature once, drag the placement sliders while watching the preview, and download a signed PDF.

Private by design: your files are processed 100% in your browser with JavaScript. They are never uploaded to a server, never stored and never seen by us - close the tab and everything is gone.

  2. Draw your signature on the pad (or upload a signature image), then pick the page to sign.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an electronic signature like this legally binding?

For everyday forms and internal documents it is widely accepted, but rules differ by country and document type. For high-value legal contracts, check local requirements or use a certified e-signature service.

Can I sign with my finger on a phone?

Yes. The signature pad works with touch - draw with your finger or a stylus.

Can I reuse a scanned signature?

Yes. Upload a clear photo or scan of your signature (PNG with a plain background works best).

Is my signature image uploaded or stored?

No. Everything happens in your browser; your signature and document never leave your device.

How it works

This tool places a picture of your signature onto a page of your PDF. You either draw on the signature pad - your strokes are captured as a transparent PNG - or upload a signature image, which is embedded as PNG or JPG. A live preview, rendered with PDF.js, shows the signature on the actual page while you adjust three sliders: horizontal position, vertical position, and size as a percentage of the page width. On Sign & Download, pdf-lib draws the image onto the one page you selected at those coordinates and saves the result with -signed added to the file name. It is a visual signature - an image placed on the page - not a certificate-based cryptographic digital signature, and the whole process runs in your browser: neither document nor signature is ever uploaded.

Worked example

A parent must sign page 4 of a school admission form. He draws his signature on the pad with the mouse, selects page 4, sets the size to 25%, and nudges the position sliders until the preview shows the signature sitting on the signature line at the bottom of the page. One click downloads admission-form-signed.pdf, ready to email back to the school.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a certified digital signature?

No. This tool stamps an image of your signature onto the page - often called a simple electronic signature. It carries no digital certificate, identity verification or tamper-proof seal. For documents that legally require a certified digital signature, use a certified e-signature service instead.

Can I sign more than one page or add several signatures?

Each run places one signature on one chosen page. To sign a second page, simply run the signed file through the tool again and place the next signature - the previous one is preserved.

What kind of signature image should I upload?

A clear PNG works best, especially one with a transparent or plain light background, because the image is placed as a rectangle - a JPG's background will show as a white box. Sign in dark ink, crop the photo close to the signature, and avoid shadows.

Will my drawn signature have a white box around it?

No. The drawing pad saves your strokes on transparency, so only the ink itself appears on the page - it blends over form lines and text like real pen on paper.

Can I also type a date or my name next to the signature?

No. The tool places the signature image only - there is no text tool. If the form needs a printed name or date, fill those in with our Edit tools or your PDF reader before or after signing.

Does signing change the rest of my document?

No. The other pages and all existing content are carried over unchanged by pdf-lib; the only addition is the signature image on the page you chose.
