Family Tree Maker — Free Three-Generation Family Trees
School projects, family gatherings, a gift for grandparents: a tidy family tree is mostly typing, if the layout does itself. Fill the names and the generations arrange themselves.
How to use the Family Tree Maker
- Type the father’s and mother’s names in the top row.
- Enter the main person and their partner in the middle row.
- List the children, one per line — any number; the bottom row stretches and centres automatically.
- Download the PNG for printing or sharing.
How it works
Positions are computed per generation: parents and the middle couple sit centred on the page, the parental drop-line lands on the main person, and children spread evenly across the bottom row with a shared rail from the couple — the standard genealogy layout, calculated from your names only.
Worked example
For a school project, a student enters her grandparents’ generation through her parents, adds herself, her brother and sister below — and prints a tree her teacher pins to the board.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add grandparents or grandchildren?
This maker covers three generations (parents, couple, children). For a bigger tree, make one chart per generation and place them together — the main person of one becomes a child of the next.
What if there is no partner?
Leave the partner box as "—" or type the name later; the layout still works.
How many children fit?
The row stretches for any count and centres the children; very large families get small boxes, so 8 or fewer reads best per chart.
Are the names stored anywhere?
No — names exist only in your browser tab.
