About exam photos with name and date
Many board and entrance examinations in Pakistan and India β including BISE board exams, university admissions and competitive tests β require a photograph with the candidate's name and the date of the photo printed at the bottom. The rule helps examiners confirm that the photo is recent and belongs to the named candidate. Studios charge for this simple edit, and the strip is often the only reason an otherwise correct photo is rejected when it is missing, misspelled or shows the wrong date.
This tool recreates exactly that studio finish: your photo keeps its proportions (scaled to at most 1200 pixels wide so the file stays manageable), and a clean strip about 11% of the photo height is added underneath β not drawn over your face or shoulders. Your name is centred on the first line in bold, and the date, written in full like 12 March 2026, is centred on the second line, just as exam instructions expect.
How it works
The photo is drawn onto a canvas, a strip is added below it, and the name and date are rendered in a bold sans-serif font sized to fit the strip. If you choose Auto text colour, black text is used on a white strip and white text on a black strip for maximum contrast. Changing any control redraws the preview instantly.
Worked example
A photo that is 900 Γ 1000 pixels gets a strip of 110 pixels (11% of 1000), making the final image 900 Γ 1110 pixels. With the name βAyesha Khanβ and the date set to 12 March 2026, line 1 reads AYESHA KHAN style centred text β shown exactly as typed β and line 2 reads 12 March 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Is this exam photo maker free?
Yes β completely free, with no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you make.
Why do board exams ask for name and date on the photo?
It proves the photo is recent and links it to the candidate named on the form. Always follow the exact wording in your exam or admission instructions.
What date should I put on the photo?
Use the date the photo was taken, or the date your instructions ask for. This tool defaults to today, and you can change it with the date picker.
Will the strip cover my face?
No. The strip is added below the photo, so the original picture is not covered at all. The finished image is slightly taller than the original.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The name, date and strip are added 100% in your browser using the Canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device.
What if my form asks for a white strip only?
Choose the white strip with Auto text colour β that gives black bold text on white, the most commonly accepted combination. Use black strips only when the instructions ask for one.
