How to make a passport size photo in 3 steps
- Load your photo — drop it above or click to browse. Nothing is uploaded; the photo stays on your device.
- Frame your face — pick the size your application asks for, drag the photo and use the zoom slider until your face fills the dashed oval.
- Download — save the print-ready JPG at exactly the pixel size chosen, ready for online upload or printing.
About passport photo sizes
Most of the world uses the 35 × 45 mm portrait format: it is the standard for European and Schengen documents, UK passports and visas, and Pakistani passports and NADRA identity cards. The United States asks for a square 2 × 2 inch photo instead. At 300 DPI — the resolution print shops expect — 35 × 45 mm works out to exactly 413 × 531 pixels, and 2 × 2 inches to 600 × 600 pixels. This maker crops and scales your picture to those exact pixel sizes, so an online application portal accepts it and a printed copy measures correctly on paper.
For the photo itself, officials everywhere ask for the same basics: face straight at the camera, both eyes open, neutral expression, no glasses or head covering (except religious coverings worn daily, where allowed), and a plain light background with no shadows. Take the picture in soft daylight facing a window and you will meet most of these rules before any editing.
How it works
The tool cover-fits your photo into the chosen frame: it scales the image so the frame is completely covered, then lets you drag and zoom to choose which part is kept. On download it draws exactly that region onto a canvas of the target pixel size and exports a high-quality JPG.
Worked example
A phone photo of 3000 × 4000 pixels opened in the 35 × 45 mm frame is scaled to cover the 413 × 531 output. You drag until the head and shoulders are centred in the oval, then download a file that is exactly 413 × 531 px — which prints at precisely 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI.
Frequently asked questions
Is this passport photo maker free?
Yes — completely free, with no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you make.
What size is a passport photo in pixels?
At the standard print resolution of 300 DPI, 35 × 45 mm is 413 × 531 pixels and 2 × 2 inches is 600 × 600 pixels. This tool offers both, plus a 600 DPI option for extra-sharp prints.
Will my photo be accepted by the passport office?
The size and resolution will be exactly right. Acceptance also depends on the photo itself — a recent, clear, front-facing picture on a plain background with no glasses or shadows. Always check your country's current rules before submitting.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping and resizing happen 100% in your browser using the Canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device.
Can I print this at home?
Yes. Download the JPG and print it at 100% scale (no "fit to page") on photo paper, or use our free Passport Photo Print Sheet to place 4, 6 or 8 copies on one A4 page.
My application asks for a blue background. Can I change it?
If your photo already has a plain background, use our Photo Background Changer to turn it white, blue or light grey, then come back here to crop it to size.
