About visa photo sizes and rules
Visa photos look similar but the rules differ by country. The United States asks for a square 2 ร 2 inch photo (600 ร 600 px at 300 DPI) on a white background, with the head taking 50โ69% of the height and no glasses since 2016. The United Kingdom and Schengen states both use 35 ร 45 mm (413 ร 531 px): the UK accepts a light grey or cream plain background, while Schengen guidance prefers light grey and requires the head to fill 70โ80% of the height (32โ36 mm). China uses its own 33 ร 48 mm size (390 ร 567 px at 300 DPI) on a white background, with head width of 15โ22 mm.
Every embassy also shares the basics: a recent photo, face straight at the camera, both eyes open, neutral expression, no shadows, and no head covering except religious coverings worn daily where allowed. This tool gets the size, resolution and framing exactly right, and shows you the matching requirement note for the visa you pick โ but always re-check the current rules on the official visa website before you submit, because embassies can update them.
How it works
Choosing a country looks up its size in a small data table, converts millimetres or inches to pixels at 300 DPI, and cover-fits your photo into a frame of that ratio. On download it draws exactly the framed region onto a canvas of the target pixel size and exports a high-quality JPG.
Worked example
For a China visa, 33 mm รท 25.4 ร 300 = 390 px wide and 48 mm รท 25.4 ร 300 = 567 px high โ so the tool frames your photo to that ratio and downloads a file that is exactly 390 ร 567 px, named visa-photo-china-390x567.jpg.
