Frequently Asked Questions
What order do extracted pages follow?
Pages always come out in their original document order, no matter how you type the list.
Is the original file changed?
Never. Extraction builds a new file; your original stays untouched.
Can I extract a single page?
Yes - just type its number, like 7.
Does extraction reduce file quality?
No. Pages are copied exactly, with text and images intact.
How it works
Your PDF stays on your device: the browser opens it with pdf-lib, reads the pages you listed (for example 3, 5-8), creates a brand-new empty document and copies just those pages into it, whole and untouched. Because pages are copied rather than re-rendered, text remains selectable and images keep their original quality. The new document is downloaded with -extracted in its name, and the source file is left exactly as it was.
Worked example
A teacher has a 40-page course book PDF but only needs the chapter exercises for tomorrow's class. She types 3, 5-8 and clicks Extract: the downloaded book-extracted.pdf contains exactly 5 pages - page 3 plus pages 5, 6, 7 and 8 - ready to share with students, while the full book stays intact on her computer.
Frequently asked questions
Can I mix single pages and ranges in one extraction?
Yes - that is exactly what the box is for. A list like 2, 4-6, 11 pulls pages 2, 4, 5, 6 and 11 into one new PDF in a single pass.
What if I type the same page twice?
It is included only once. Your list is treated as a set of wanted pages, so duplicates in the list never produce duplicated pages in the result.
Can I pull pages from several different PDFs at once?
No, extraction works on one document at a time. A practical approach is to extract what you need from each file separately and then combine the results with our Merge PDF tool.
Are bookmarks and links preserved in the extracted file?
The pages themselves are copied completely, but the extracted document is built fresh, so the source file's bookmark outline is not carried over. Links printed or drawn on the pages themselves are part of the pages.
Can I extract pages from a password-protected PDF?
No. The file has to be readable for its pages to be copied, and a password-locked document will show an error instead. Remove the password in its original app first, then extract here.
