Fill PDF Form Online - Free
Government forms, school admissions, job applications and bank paperwork often arrive as fillable PDFs - but not everyone has a PDF editor handy. Open the form here, type your answers into the fields the tool finds, and download the finished copy, all without uploading the file anywhere.
How to fill a PDF form
- Choose the fillable PDF form - the tool reads it and lists every form field it contains.
- Type your answers into the text boxes, tick the checkboxes and pick from the dropdowns and radio buttons.
- Decide whether to flatten (default: off, fields stay editable), then click “Download Filled PDF”.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the tool say my PDF has no form fields?
Many PDFs that look like forms are actually flat pages - the lines and boxes are just drawings, with no real fillable fields inside the file. Only PDFs created with true form fields (AcroForm) can be filled this way. A scanned paper form is almost always flat.
What is the difference between flattening and not flattening?
Without flattening, your answers are stored in the form fields and can still be edited later in any PDF editor. Flattening bakes the answers into the pages themselves: they print exactly as seen, but the fields disappear and can no longer be changed.
Which field types are supported?
Text fields (including multi-line), checkboxes, dropdown lists, radio button groups and option lists. Signature fields and push buttons cannot be filled with text and are listed for information only.
Are my form answers uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened and filled entirely inside your browser with pdf-lib. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by us.
How it works
The tool opens your PDF inside your browser with pdf-lib - the file is never uploaded - and reads the document's form definition (called AcroForm). Every field it finds is shown to you as the matching control: a text box for text fields, a tick box for checkboxes, a list for dropdowns and option lists, and a set of round buttons for radio groups, each pre-filled with whatever answer the form already holds. When you download, your answers are written back into the same fields and the field appearances are refreshed, so the values display correctly in any PDF reader. If you tick Flatten, the fields are then merged into the page content itself and removed as fields. The finished file is saved with -filled added to its name.
Worked example
A school office sends you an admission form as a fillable PDF with 9 fields: student name, date of birth, class applied for (a dropdown), home address (a multi-line text field), two checkboxes for documents attached, and a radio group for transport - bus or own. You open it here, the summary confirms 9 fields (4 text, 2 checkboxes, 1 dropdown, 1 radio group, 1 option list), you type and tick your answers, leave Flatten unticked so the office can still correct a spelling, and download admission-filled.pdf ready to email back.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fill a form that was scanned from paper?
No - and no tool honestly can with this method. A scan is a photograph of a form; there are no fields inside the file. You would need to print and fill it by hand, or ask the sender for the original fillable version.
Why do some fields appear in the list but cannot be typed into?
Signature fields and push buttons are not text-answer fields, so they are listed for completeness but shown as information only. To sign, use our Sign PDF tool after filling the rest of the form.
Will the filled form still work in Adobe Acrobat and other readers?
Yes. The answers are stored as standard form field values with refreshed appearances, which is exactly what Acrobat and other readers expect. Unless you flatten, the fields remain fully editable there too.
Does the tool change anything else in my PDF?
No. Only the field values you enter are written. Pages, images, fonts and layout are untouched, and the page count never changes - flattening included.
What happens to answers already inside the form?
They are shown to you pre-filled in each field. Keep them, edit them or clear them - the download always writes what is on screen when you click the button.
