How to add a watermark in 3 steps

  1. Load your image โ€” drop it above or click to browse. Nothing is uploaded; the image stays on your device.
  2. Type your text and style it โ€” set the text, size, colour and opacity, then pick one of the nine positions โ€” or switch on the tiled pattern to repeat the text across the whole photo.
  3. Download โ€” the preview updates live as you change settings. When it looks right, download in JPG, PNG or WebP.

About watermarking your photos

A watermark is your name, logo text or copyright line drawn directly onto a photo. Photographers, online sellers and teachers use it so that when an image is shared, saved or reposted, its owner is still visible. A corner watermark at about 50โ€“70% opacity is the popular choice for portfolios and product photos: clear enough to read, light enough not to spoil the picture. A tiled pattern repeating across the whole image is the stronger option for previews and proofs, because there is no clean corner left to crop away.

Be realistic about what a watermark does: it deters casual copying and proves ownership, but a determined person can still crop or edit one out. For sensitive documents, pair the watermark with keeping your original file โ€” the original, unmarked copy is your strongest proof that the photo is yours.

How it works

Your image is drawn onto a browser canvas at its full original size, and your text is drawn over it with the exact size, colour and transparency you chose. Text size is a percentage of the image width, so the watermark scales correctly whether the photo is 800 or 8000 pixels wide. In tiled mode the text is rotated and repeated on a diagonal grid that covers the whole frame, including the corners. When you download, the canvas is exported in your chosen format โ€” the text becomes a permanent part of the image file.

Worked example

On a photo that is 2000 px wide, a size setting of 6% gives a font of 2000 ร— 6 รท 100 = 120 px. At 60% opacity in the bottom-right position, the text sits with a small margin from both edges (3% of the shorter side), big enough to read on a phone screen but small enough not to cover the subject.

Frequently asked questions

Is this watermark tool free?

Yes โ€” completely free, with no signup and no limit on how many images you watermark. The only mark added is the text you type yourself.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens 100% in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device, which also makes the tool instant.

What is the difference between a single watermark and the tiled pattern?

A single watermark sits in one of nine positions, such as the bottom-right corner โ€” neat and unobtrusive. The tiled pattern repeats your text diagonally across the whole image, which is much harder to crop out and is best for previews, proofs and stock-style sharing.

Which opacity should I use?

50โ€“70% suits most photos: readable but not distracting. Drop to 25โ€“40% for a subtle tiled pattern, and use 90โ€“100% when the mark must be unmissable, for example on a document scan.

Can the watermark be removed later?

Not from the downloaded file โ€” the text is baked into the pixels. Always keep your original, unmarked photo; then you can re-watermark it with different text or settings whenever you like.

Does the tool reduce my image quality?

The image is exported at its full original dimensions. JPG and WebP use the quality slider (92% by default, visually identical for photos); choose PNG for a completely lossless file.
