How to use the Roman Urdu to Urdu

  1. Type or paste your Roman Urdu into the first box.
  2. Click Convert - common Urdu words become their exact script forms.
  3. Copy the Urdu text into Word, WhatsApp, your assignment or anywhere else.

How it works

Urdu spelling cannot be guessed letter-by-letter from Roman writing - 'hai' is ہے, not a sound-by-sound spelling. So this converter first matches every word against a built-in dictionary of the most common Urdu words, names and phrases - the words that make up everyday sentences - and converts those exactly. Words outside the dictionary are transliterated sound-by-sound using Urdu letter rules (kh → کھ, sh → ش, ch → چ and so on). Punctuation is converted too: a full stop becomes ۔ and a question mark becomes ؟. Everyday sentences convert almost perfectly; give unusual names or rare words a quick glance before sending.

Worked example

You type: 'Assalam-o-Alaikum, mera naam Ahmed hai. Main school mein ustad hoon aur mujhe taleem se mohabbat hai.' The result: 'السلام علیکم، میرا نام احمد ہے۔ میں اسکول میں استاد ہوں اور مجھے تعلیم سے محبت ہے۔' - ready for an official message.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Roman Urdu converter free?

Yes - completely free, no sign-up, use it as often as you like.

How accurate is it?

Everyday sentences built from common words convert almost exactly, because those words come from a real dictionary. Rare words and unusual names are sounded out letter-by-letter and may need a small correction.

Can it convert Urdu script back to Roman?

Not yet - this tool converts Roman Urdu into Urdu script, the direction people need for documents and formal messages.

Does it fix my spelling mistakes?

No - it converts what you typed. If a Roman word is misspelled ('mujhy' instead of 'mujhe'), the dictionary may miss it and sound it out instead.

Is my text uploaded?

No - conversion runs 100% in your browser on your device.
