How to use the Remove Extra Spaces

How it works
The clean-up runs in a careful order: tabs first become spaces, then each line is trimmed, runs of spaces collapse into one, and blank lines are removed or reduced to a single paragraph gap. Because trimming happens before collapsing, spaces hiding at line edges cannot survive by merging with the next line. The status line reports the exact number of characters removed, so you can see how messy the original really was.
Worked example
A paragraph copied from a PDF arrives as 'The quick brown fox.\t Jumps over.' with ragged spaces and a tab. After cleaning: 'The quick brown fox. Jumps over.' - and the tool reports 6 characters removed.
