Colour by Number Generator โ Numbered Mosaic Pictures
Colour-by-number is quiet, focused work that builds number recognition and fine motor control โ and children love the reveal when the picture emerges. A generator means the picture is new every lesson, not the same dolphin for the fifth year running.
The worksheet shows numbers only. The coloured answer picture is on a separate print โ keep it for checking.
Colour by Number โ Answer Picture
How to Use It
- Choose a picture size โ 12 ร 12 is quick and suits young children; 20 ร 20 makes a richer picture.
- Generate: the worksheet shows a grid of numbers with the colour key (1 = red, 2 = orange, and so on).
- Print the worksheet for colouring with crayons or pencils matching the key.
- Print the coloured answer separately to check the finished work โ or to display what the picture should become.
How It Works
The picture is grown from six random seed points: every cell of the grid takes the number of its nearest seed (with a pinch of randomness to keep edges organic), producing six clear regions that meet in interesting shapes. The worksheet and the answer picture are rendered from the same grid data, so they always agree.
Frequently Asked Questions
What colours do students need?
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple crayons or pencils โ the six standard colours in the key. If a child lacks one, any close colour works; the numbers are what matter.
Is the picture of anything in particular?
It is an abstract mosaic โ regions and shapes rather than a recognisable object. That is honest generator territory: the fun is the colour reveal, and no two sheets are alike.
Can I make it harder?
Use the 20 ร 20 size: more cells per region means more colouring stamina and finer number scanning.
