Weighted Grade Calculator โ What Is My Course Grade, Really?
"Homework is 10%, quizzes 20%, tests 40%โฆ" โ a course grade is a weighted average, not a simple mean, and guessing it wrong in either direction causes real stress. This calculator does the weighted maths exactly, and is honest about what is still to come.
Weights do not need to add to 100 โ they are normalised automatically (a weight of 2 counts twice a weight of 1). Leave a score blank to see the grade so far without that category.
How to Use It
- List your categories from the syllabus (homework, quizzes, tests, projects, final) with their weights.
- Enter your score % in each finished category. Leave unfinished ones blank โ they are excluded, not counted as zero.
- Calculate: your grade so far is the weighted average of completed categories, with the pending weight clearly shown.
- Planning the final? Take the result to the Final Exam Calculator on this site.
How It Works
The overall grade is ฮฃ(weight ร score) รท ฮฃ(weight) over the categories you have scored, rounded to one decimal โ which is why weights need not sum to 100: a 40/20/10 syllabus and a 4/2/1 syllabus give identical results. Blank categories contribute neither score nor weight; the output tells you how much weight is still outstanding so the "grade so far" is never mistaken for a final grade.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this not on the Calculators site with the GPA tools?
GPA and CGPA calculators โ course lists, credits, grade points โ live on Loona Calculators, and this page links to them. This tool answers a different question: one course, category weights, no credits involved.
My weights add to 110. Is that a problem?
No โ weights are relative. The calculator divides by the total weight you entered, so any consistent set of weights works.
Should blank categories count as zero?
Only if your teacher counts missing work as zero. If the category simply has not happened yet (like the final), excluding it โ as this tool does โ shows your standing honestly.
